【摘要】:Adiffusioncoatingisoneproducedbycausinganelementorelementstoreactwithordiffuseinto,orboth,thesurfaceofametallicsubstrate,thuschemicallyalteringthesubstrateadjacenttothesurface.Toappreciatethesignificanceofcoatingthicknessmeasurementsonemustunderstandthecontributionstoaparticularcoatingofsolid-solutionzonesinthesubstrateandreactionproductssuchasintermetalliccompounds.1.1Thesetestmethodscovertwoproceduresformeasuringthethicknessofdiffusioncoatings.1.2TestMethodAisthedeterminationofthedimensional-changethickness,definedasthedifferenceinthethicknessofthepartbeforeandaftercoating.(Thetermsmicrometerthicknessandpartgrowthareconsideredsynonymouswithdimensionalchangethickness.)1.3TestMethodBisthedeterminationoftotalcoatingthickness,definedasthedistancebetweentheobservablyunaffectedsubstrateandtheexteriorsurfaceofthecoating.Thisincludesthetotalofallincludedphases,zonesandlayers.(Thetermcasedepthisconsideredtobesynonymouswithtotalcoatingthickness.)Thetotalcoatingthicknessisdeterminedbycross-sectioningthecoating,preparingametallurgicalmountandmicroscopicallymeasuringthecoatingthickness.1.4Thetotalcoatingthicknessasdeterminedmicroscopicallyfromacross-sectionwillusuallybegreaterthan,orequalto,thedimensionalchangethicknessdeterminedbypartgrowth.Whenthecoatingisproducedprimarilybyreactionwiththesubstrate,thesubstrate-coatinginterfacerecedesasthesubstrateisconsumedinthereaction.Insuchcasesthedifferencebetweenthetotalcoatingthicknessandthedimensionalchangethicknessisthethicknessofthesubstrateconsumed.1.5Diffusioncoatingsareusuallyformedatelevatedtemperaturesforserviceatelevatedtemperatures.Thismeansthatdiffusioncoatingsaredynamicsystemswhicharecontinuallyundergoingchangeswhileinanelevated-temperatureenvironment.Itisnecessarytoknowthatcertainphasesaregrowingattheexpenseofothersandtoknowtheprevioushistoryofacoatingtounderstandthesignificanceofcoatingthicknessdata.1.6ValuesinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Inch-poundunitsareprovidedforinformationonly.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
